Ingredients
- 400 g 400g firm tofu, sliced into 1/2-inch thick slabs
- 0.25 cup 1/4 cup cornstarch, for dredging
- 3 tbsp 3 tbsp cooking oil, for frying
- 1 pc 1 small onion, sliced
- 3 clove 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp 1 tbsp cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tbsp water, for the gravy
- 0.25 tsp 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 stalk Chopped spring onions, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Press the tofu slabs between paper towels for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Dredge each tofu slab lightly in cornstarch, shaking off the excess.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the tofu slabs until golden and crisp on both sides, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, saute garlic and onion until fragrant, then add the mushrooms and cook until softened.
- Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, pepper, and water. Bring to a simmer.
- Add the cornstarch slurry and cook, stirring, until the gravy thickens.
- Return the fried tofu to the pan, spooning the gravy over each slab, or plate the tofu and pour the gravy on top.
- Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot with rice.
