ModerateSoy
Ingredients
- 1 kg 1 kg beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 0.5 cup 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 0.3333 cup 1/3 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice)
- 1 tsp 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 pc 2 large onions, sliced into rings
- 4 clove 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tbsp 4 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 tsp 1 tsp sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Marinate beef slices in soy sauce, calamansi juice, and black pepper for at least 1 hour, or overnight in the refrigerator for best flavor.
- Remove beef from marinade, reserving the liquid, and pat dry slightly.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan over high heat and sear beef slices in batches until browned but not fully cooked through. Set aside.
- In the same pan, add remaining oil and sauté garlic until golden, then add onion rings and cook until slightly softened. Set half of the onions aside for garnish.
- Pour in the reserved marinade and water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 2 minutes.
- Return the beef to the pan and simmer until beef is tender and sauce is slightly reduced, about 5 to 8 minutes. Add sugar if desired to balance acidity.
- Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Transfer to a serving plate, top with the reserved raw or lightly cooked onion rings, and serve hot with steamed rice.
