Budget-friendlySoy🩺 Low-purine (gout)
Ingredients
- 4 pc 4 blocks (about 500g) firm tofu
- 1 cup 1 cup cooking oil, for frying
- 0.5 cup 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 0.3333 cup 1/3 cup white or cane vinegar
- 4 clove 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pc 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
- 1.5 pc 1-2 pieces siling labuyo (bird's eye chili), sliced
- 0.5 tsp 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp 1 tsp sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Drain the tofu blocks and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, about 1-inch pieces.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Fry the tofu cubes in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crisp on all sides, about 5-7 minutes per batch; drain on paper towels.
- While the tofu fries, prepare the dip by combining soy sauce, vinegar, minced garlic, onion, chili, pepper, and sugar in a small bowl; stir well.
- Arrange the fried tofu on a serving plate.
- Serve immediately with the toyo't suka dipping sauce on the side, or drizzle a little directly over the tofu before serving.
