Ingredients
- 400 g 400g ground pork
- 150 g 150g shrimp, peeled and minced
- 0.5 cup 1/2 cup minced carrots
- 0.25 cup 1/4 cup minced water chestnuts
- 3 tbsp 3 tbsp chopped spring onions
- 1 pc 1 egg
- 2 tbsp 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp 1 tsp sesame oil
- 3 pinch 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 30 pc 30 pieces siomai/dumpling wrappers (round)
- 2 tbsp Soy sauce, calamansi, and chili oil, for dipping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground pork, shrimp, carrots, water chestnuts, spring onions, egg, cornstarch, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper; mix well until the filling becomes slightly sticky.
- Place a heaping tablespoon of filling in the center of each siomai wrapper.
- Gather the edges of the wrapper up around the filling, pleating slightly, leaving the top open and the filling exposed; press gently to flatten the base so it stands upright.
- Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves and arrange the siomai with space between each piece.
- Steam over boiling water for 15-20 minutes, until the filling is cooked through and firm.
- While steaming, mix soy sauce and calamansi juice with a dash of chili oil for the dipping sauce.
- Remove the siomai from the steamer and let cool slightly.
- Serve hot with the soy-calamansi dipping sauce on the side.
